Motherhood Expanded

Chapter 6: Rewilding

“I want my daughters to be fully alive without the leash of pleasing me or adapting to their surroundings. I unlearned and relearned how to mother myself in order to have the skills to witness them in their fullness. I desire to continually meet my own edges of joy and grief and grow my tolerance for discomfort to unlock my prayer for them; to be wild and free. It is not their expression that was difficult; it was the honesty that it showed me in my own expression. It was my experience of their experience. I became curious with my lack of comfortability with raw and untamed life force energy. A new leadership grew in me that traded control for connection. I can now hold space and provide containment without choosing between these. I am willing to sit in the mess and not create any stories about it. This is my offering of wild and unconditional love.”

Chapter 3: Sovereign Motherhood

“This was our values vision coming to life. What became important to us; love, health and freedom became a living playbook. We wanted a life where we could enjoy expansive space, abundant time and choices … true freedom. We took radical responsibility for our happiness to live life by design, protecting our daughter’s childhood and maintaining sovereignty over how they were being raised. What was created for us was beyond our wildest imagination. Within the decision to move was a realization that I had been prepared for something much greater and bigger than myself. We traded our old life for a co-created reality where our collective needs could thrive. The ocean and the forests called us home and became tremendous healing tools. Our girls now know a world of adventure and community where they are truly raised in a village and play outside until dark. They have benefited from parents who have access to a deep well of self-care, expanding our capacity for presence.”
